Let’s talk about 3 ways to build self-confidence so that you can stop playing small, and be the person you know you are destined to be. Several factors can determine someone’s confidence, including genes, environment, and the choices that they make in life.
Choices are what we have control over and at the end of the day, it’s the thing that helps us build confidence. Two years ago I received a Canon DSLR camera kit for my birthday. I wanted one so that I could take pics of my drapery work, the blog, and social media content.

Since getting the camera I’ve gained over 40lbs and avoided taking photos altogether. You know why? My confidence tanked and I knew I needed to rebuild it, so I decided to get to work and do something about it. More importantly, I needed to do things afraid and taking full body pics was the first step.
Here’s what I know, when you don’t have confidence you always find a way to lose.
When you have low confidence you’ll always say no to invites that could help build your brand, contact list, make new friends and more. Even if you don’t have a business, because with having a job you still have a brand. You’ll back out of things you said yes to before you think it’s too late. Oh, and if it’s weight-related – you’ll stay cooped up in the house, finding ways to stay busy doing things that don’t require you to be seen or just sit in front of the TV/computer eating snacks and get bigger. I know how you feel because that WAS me, not anymore!
Below are 3 ways to build self-confidence so that you can live your best life, now:
1. Visualizing your success. “What the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve.” ― Napoleon Hill
It’s been said that all top performers, regardless of their profession, know the importance of picturing themselves succeeding in their minds before they actually do in reality. I once heard a man say that you don’t get what you want, you get what you picture. My advice is to make visualizing apart of your morning routine, start with a really great resource called miracle morning!
2. Use affirmations to empower yourself. “Affirmations are our mental vitamins, providing the supplementary positive thoughts we need to balance the barrage of negative events and thoughts we experience daily.” ― Tia Walker
Affirmations work because they have the ability to program your mind into believing the stated concept. Just reciting affirmations does not necessarily make them real, except for the fact that you believe they are. Your beliefs create and dictate what your attitudes are. Your attitudes create and dictate how you respond—in other words, they dictate your feelings. And your feelings largely determine how you behave, therefore allowing you to become, and become better if that’s what you want.
Need affirmation ideas? Check out a few that I use below:
♡ I have unlimited potential ♡ I am making great choices for my life
♡ I manage difficult tasks well ♡ I am amazing both inside & out
♡ I am a true blessing to others ♡ I am confident & inspiring
3. Do the work. “I didn’t have confidence, but the confidence came with the results of taking action anyway.” ― Unknown
I’m going to talk about this in 2 parts. One, doing it with low confidence and afraid. Two, doing the work to improve what’s causing your confidence to tank in the first place.
Doing it afraid. “You’re going to be bad before you’re good and good before you’re great.” ― Unknown
You’ve probably heard this a gazillion times. The truth is, you earn and build up confidence through trial and error, so do what you aren’t confident doing so that you can get better at doing that thing.
Do it to get better. “Don’t complain about things you‘re not willing to change.” ― Andre Bramble
Not that you’re complaining, but you get what I mean. For me, the tank in confidence comes with being obese, so if I want to eliminate that problem all together I have to get back to a healthy weight. For you it could be your smile; just work on getting braces or treatment. It may be public speaking, start speaking in front of family, friends, small groups of people or even complimenting 3 strangers a day. At the end of the day, we have to work on the problem.
Take a good look at the image below because this time next year I’ll look like a totally different person, it’s already happening.
Outfit of the Day
I don’t know about you but I love a good maxi dress, especially one with pockets like this one. I’ve decided to make these dresses my uniform for work this summer, so if you see me in these ATL streets with one on, just know that I purchased 2 of them in every color, lol.
They are so easy to wear, comfortable and affordable at under $25 each. Pair it with a cute sandal or mule, a nice handbag and necklace then be well on your way.
